Laphroaig Project

This is a take on the Last Word, and probably one of the most remarkable drinks I have discovered recently. It is crazy fruity, smoky and yet perfectly balanced. If I had to pick one single modern classic to champion, this would be it.

Laphroaig Project
  1. 30 ml Chartreuse Verte
  2. 30 ml fresh lemon juice
  3. 15 ml maraschino liqueur
  4. 15 ml Laphroaig Quarter Cask
  1. Shake and fine-strain into tumbler on ice. Garnish with lemon zest (but don't spray the oils on it, because they will destroy the delicate nose of this sour).

Notes

This drink was created by Owen Westman somewhen in late 2009 in San Francisco. A couple of blogs have called it an international phenomenon. The original recipe also adds 7.5 ml of Chartreuse jaune and 2 dashes of peach bitters to the recipe below. Indeed, if you have those ingredients at hand, by all means, use them. The yellow Chartreuse will make the drink rounder, and the peach bitters will bring out a subtle fruitiness from the Laphroaig. If not, don’t worry: You will still end up with a very decent drink.
